In Book XIII, Odysseus awakes from his sleep to find that Athena has encircled him in mist. First, compare and contrast Odysseus's and Athena’s characters. In ten complete sentences, indicate ten similarities between Odysseus and Athena and ten differences between them. Then, in an expository essay, write about Athena’s purpose in meeting with Odysseus. How does she counsel Odysseus?  How is it evident that Athena is torn between acting with justice and personal affection toward Odysseus? Here the reader notices that Odysseus receives both rebuke and instruction from several characters. Odysseus does not find himself in a privileged position of power. Write an essay in which you show how his journey to the underworld is meant to humble him. Why?
